Shogun’ Star Tadanobu Asano to Receive The Hollywood Reporter Japan’s Trailblazer Award at Tokyo International Film Festival
Tadanobu Asano, Emmy-nominated renowned Japanese actor, will be honored with The Hollywood Reporter Japan’s prestigious Trailblazer Award during the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival. The award ceremony will take place at The Peninsula Hotel in Tokyo. Asano has earned global recognition for his role as the fierce samurai Yabushige in FX’s hit series Shogun, which led to his first Emmy nomination.
The Trailblazer Award, presented by The Hollywood Reporter, recognizes artists whose work illuminates marginalized stories and characters in Hollywood. Previous recipients include Jean Smart, David Oyelowo, Eva Longoria, and America Ferrera. International editor Abid Rahman will present the award to Asano at THR Japan’s annual Tokyo Film Festival soirée, which is expected to attract prominent figures from the Japanese film industry.
Asano, who has been a fixture of Japanese cinema for nearly three decades, is celebrated both domestically and internationally. His work spans iconic films like Ichi the Killer and Zatōichi to collaborations with global directors such as Martin Scorsese in Silence and Marvel’s Thor. His recent projects include Broken Rage by Takeshi Kitano and Morte Cucina, directed by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang.
The 2024 Tokyo International Film Festival runs from October 28 to November 6.
