After two years of absence, the BDF German Charity Fund’s main event the “BDF Gartenfest” finally took place again at the German Embassy in Hiroo.
As is tradition, the German Ambassador to Japan, gave the opening remarks. Ambassador Dr. Clemens von Goetze welcomed the many guests and thanked the organizers for their indispensable work for the German community in Japan. He encouraged everyone to support the work of BDF Japan and enjoy the well-organized event.
His opening speech was followed by a few comments by Dr. Florian Kirschner, president of the board, who highlighted the long history of the BDF German Charity Fund in Japan, its mission and the many successful support cases of the past. He thanked the guests for their continuous financial support, the many sponsors and volunteers with which the fund could not continue to function.
Guests were then encouraged to buy plenty of raffle tickets, and enjoy the food outside the main building. The Embassy’s spacious yard had several tents set up to shelter the buffet and the German barbecue (grilled sausages). In the second half of the event, a live-band played popular rock songs, and members of all ages displayed their dance moves.
And despite the unfavorable weather conditions – rain – all attendees enjoyed a lively atmosphere, authentic German food and beer.
Congratulations to BDF Japan and its many volunteers for a very successful event.
About BDF Japan’s mission
The mission of the BDF is to support Germans and their relatives who are suffering (often economic) hardship in Japan. The BDF provides support by advising those in need and providing subsidies for living expenses.
The BDF also supports Germans in their activities that alleviate misery in Japan.
The BDF collects the necessary funds in the form of donations from companies and private individuals. It also organizes several charity events each year, the proceeds of which are donated to the funds.
The BDF committee decides on the granting of financial aid.
