Noh singer, Ryoko Aoki Concert Series “Contemporary Music x Noh”
Ryoko Aoki Concert Series “Contemporary Music x Noh” 10th Anniversary Concert, 30 November 2023 at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall
World and Japanese premieres of pieces by Annelies Van Parys, Naoki Sakata and Claude Ledoux.
We will organize the Noh singer, Ryoko Aoki Concert Series “Contemporary Music x Noh” 10th anniversary concert on 30 November 2023 (Thursday) at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall.
The “Contemporary Music x Noh” concert series presents new contemporary music pieces composed for Noh chanting, and since its launch in 2010, we have commissioned 44 composers from 20 countries.
In addition to the world premiere, this concert will be held in the form of a concert with selections from the repertoire of pieces for Noh voice to date, to celebrate the 10th anniversary.
We will have the world premieres of new compositions commissioned from two of today’s most active female composers, Belgium’s Annelies Van Parys and Naoki Sakata, a Japanese composer living in Paris who has been remarkably active in recent years. Also, we will have the Japanese premiere of “FujiDaiko Écho” for Noh voice and string quartet by leading Belgian composer Claude Ledoux, which Aoki premiered at the Ars Musica Festival in Belgium in 2021.
Aoki will perform the piece with violin “Far Water” by Spanish composer José María Sánchez-Verdú, with whom Aoki has a long history of collaboration, including the composition of an orchestral piece that she premiered with the Orquesta Nacional de España (Spanish National Orchestra) in 2022.
Aoki will play with young string players representing Japan, such as violinists, Tatsuki Narita and Ryosuke Suho, a violist, Kei Tojo on viola and a cellist, Ayano Uemura. It will present new music born from the fusion of “Noh chanting” and contemporary music.
