Daisetsu Suzuki and Kitaro Nishida 2022 World Premiere Opera "Zen" by Hersey Shiga

2022 World Premiere New Opera “Zen”

What did Daisetsu Suzuki want to say after running through the turbulent times before and after the war?

In this era when we cannot see ahead, we would like to take up the “Zen heart” of Japan, question the way of life through this stage, stare at it, and seek the light and hope of living.

In OPERA “ZEN”, Erika Colon plays a very important role, Beatrice, a female who is in love with Daisetsu Suzuki (the main character).

Erika Colon is a soprano from Venezuela. She has studied vocal music in Japan and the UK, and has expanded her activities to opera and solo concerts with her beautiful voice, stable singing ability, and pretty stage appearance.

She has many activities as the wife of the Venezuelan ambassador to Japan, and she also focuses on charity and teaches white hand chorus. She also introduced to Japan the excellent music education “El Sistema”, which created the famous conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and supports her activities.
