Tokyo’s Minato City welcomed the Christmas season in understated elegance this December as the Philippine Embassy in Japan hosted its annual Philippine Christmas Concert at the Akasaka Civic Center—an evening that blended diplomacy, culture, and world-class music.

Now in its third year, the concert has become a refined fixture on Minato’s December calendar. Held on 2 December 2025 in cooperation with Minato City, the event drew members of the diplomatic corps, Japanese officials, civic leaders, and both Filipino and local communities, reflecting the concert’s role as a cultural bridge.

The evening was headlined by the internationally acclaimed University of Santo Tomas Singers, led by conductor Fidel G. Calalang, Jr. The ensemble delivered a polished repertoire spanning original Filipino works, Japanese favorites, and international Christmas carols. Founded in 1992, the choir is among Asia’s most decorated, having made history as the first Asian group to win the Luciano Pavarotti “Choir of the World” Trophy in Wales.

As the final notes faded, the evening stood as a reminder of music’s quiet power—especially at Christmas—to connect communities and cultures with grace.
