Celebrating Estonia’s 105th Independence Day

On February 22, 2023, the Estonian Embassy in Japan held its 105th Independence Day (February 24th) Reception at the Meiji Kinenkan. Estonia, known as the world’s most advanced digital nation, is also the birthplace of Skype, which is used by many people around the world. Reflecting on such national efforts, Kono Taro, Digital Minister, and Hirai Takuya, the first Digital Minister and Chair of the Japan-Estonia Parliamentary Friendship League, also attended. A special guest of honour was Ambassador Korsunsky of Ukraine.

On this year’s Independence Day, Ambassador Väino Reinart thanked the Saku Estonian Friendship Association for hosting the Estonian national team as a host town during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He handed over a letter of appreciation by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia. At the same time, on this day, which also marks the first year of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Ambassador Reinart condemned Russia’s actions in the strongest terms possible and expressed his continued support for the preservation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

This message congratulates the good relations that Estonia and Japan have built, and at the same time, also contains the anger and hope for peace of the Estonian people, who once as the Ukrainians do.
