The Vietnam Festival is back again this year! First held in 2008 as an officially supported cultural exchange event by the Vietnamese government, it attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. This year, the Thang Long Water Opera House was invited from Vietnam, and concerts by top Vietnamese artists were planned. The event was highly anticipated, with an expected attendance of 180,000, surpassing last year’s 140,000.

The festival featured approximately 120 stalls. Many sold familiar Vietnamese dishes such as pho and banh mi, and the number of Vietnamese companies exhibiting has been steadily increasing.

One thing noticed at this festival is how deeply rooted Vietnamese culture, including entertainment and cuisine, is in Japan. Many visitors are very familiar with Vietnamese food, and recently, Vietnamese dishes and seasonings are even appearing on the dinner tables of ordinary Japanese people. Vietnamese instant noodles produced by major companies such as Acecook have become widely available in Japan. The Commercial Section of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan also cooperates with the promotion of Vietnamese food products, and at this festival, authentic Vietnamese seasonings and sauces, imported by Ryoto Sangyo, were on display and for sale.

Furthermore, Vietnam is known as a major tourist destination, and the large booth exhibited by Vietnam Airlines symbolizes Vietnam’s vibrant tourism industry. Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates 118 routes in total: 76 routes to 22 countries worldwide, 39 domestic routes within Vietnam, and 3 international routes, with 11 routes to Japan.

Vietnam Airlines is also ranked in AirlineRatings’ “Top 25 Safest Full-Service Airlines in the World for 2026.” Currently, direct flights from Japan to Vietnam take only six hours, making it a popular and relatively affordable overseas destination.

Companies such as FPT, Vietnam’s largest IT company, and Smiles, which handles smartphone-based money transfers, had large booths too. With the development of the Vietnamese economy and tourism, the number of Vietnamese residents in Japan is rapidly increasing.

The organization HICO is also dedicated to supporting the healthcare needs of Vietnamese residents in Japan. HICO has developed apps in Vietnamese to help them access medical care in Japan, demonstrating its commitment to supporting their daily lives.

This festival was not only a chance to experience and enjoy Vietnam, but also a valuable opportunity to learn about Vietnam, a country that continues to develop. I’m very much looking forward to next year’s event.
