Karl Lagerfeld and Bill Hersey Tokyo

Bill Hersey’s Partyline March 1982 – Karl Lagerfeld and Kathleen Turner in Japan

People in town included actress Kathleen Turner who was here to promote the Warner Brothers’ film Body Heat in which she stars.

Monday the 22nd Warner Brothers introduced Kathleen Turner, the sultry star of their very hot film, Body Heat. “Body Heat.” The local press really turned out for Kathleen, and even though she’s been traveling around the world for several months promoting the film, she was very impressed. “Wow!” he excla血ed as she looked around the room. That comment was very indicative of Kathleen’s personality—unaffected, down to earth and very outgoing. In addition she’s extremely beautiful – more of an all-American girl beauty than the sultry beauty he projects in the film ― intelligent and talented.

I was very thankful to have the privilege of sitting down and talking with Kathleen that evening at the Lex. I learned that we have many mutual friends. She had been “on the road for several months and was looking forward to getting back to New York City which she considers home. A nice lady … we wish her our best and, by the way, don’t miss “Body Heat.” It’s a good film.

I had hoped to be here to do a party at the Lex or Samba in her honor, but I left for the US to have my own adventures.

Studio 54 Reopens

Studio 54 reopened in September, and the new owner Mark Fleischmann seems to have more going on than ever behind those two famous black doors on 54th Street. Mark invited a group of us over, and since my two co-workers were leaving for Tokyo on Monday, we had to make it on a Sunday night. It turned out that Sundays are usually “gay nights” at the club, but there were some beautiful girls (mainly models), a few celebs a lot of other colorful and interesting people.

The dance floor was crowded, but even if you don’t dig dancing, the Iights, sets, etc., really make for hours of interesting watching. There was a group of Puerto Ricans from the Bronx doing what’s called “breakdancing,” and that’s a _show in itself.

I dined with Mark and a group of his friends in his ultra-chic penthouse the next evening, and was amazed to hear about the many things he’s involved in that range from resort hotels in the Carribean to ski resorts in New England. One of his current projects is getting together a regular TV show that will be filmed at Studio 54.

One of my favorite pop musicians, Eric Carmen, was back in town for the Rock super Session sponsored by Ongakush and the Yomiuri Shinbun. I first met Eric several years ago when he was the guest star for the Yamaha Music Festival. Another great musician, Carmine Appice, will also be one of  the stars in the Rock Super Session. Carmine’s one of the world’s hottest drummers and played with Rod Stewart’s group on their tour here last year.
