Celebrating the enduring relationship between Algeria and Japan

On November 13, 2025, the Embassy of Algeria in Japan hosted the 71st Algeria National Day Reception at the Ambassador’s Residence.

His Excellency Mr. Toufik MILAT, current Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Japan, is visiting Japan for the second time, having previously served in Japan approximately 20 years ago.  Under the leadership of the current Ambassador, a Japan Expert, Algeria has successfully tackled major events this year, including the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 and TICAD 9.

In light of these results, H.E. Mr. MILAT expressed his gratitude for all the smooth progress being made.  He also spoke of the further development of bilateral relations between Japan and Algeria, and the vision for the future:  to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in a variety of fields, including the economic sphere, with a focus on investment.

Japan recognized Algeria as a nation upon its independence on July 5, 1962, establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.  However, business cooperation between the two countries began even before then, and after independence, many Japanese businessmen worked in Algeria to engage in oil and natural gas development.

As the largest country in Africa, Algeria has always led the African economy and investment, playing a vital role in the peace and prosperity of the Middle East and Africa region.  Economic exchange between Algeria and Japan is expected to continue to grow and develop.
