Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman Hosts National Day Reception in Tokyo
The Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman hosted its National Day Reception at the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo, bringing together diplomatic representatives, government officials, and invited guests to mark the occasion.
H.E. Dr. Mohamed Said Khalifa Al Busaidi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to Japan, delivered welcoming remarks in which he outlined Oman’s long and distinguished history, from its founding in 1744 through its unification and development to the present day. He emphasized Oman’s position on the Arabian Peninsula as a nation recognized for its civilization, humanitarian values, and longstanding contributions to regional peace and stability.

Ambassador Al Busaidi also spoke of Oman’s balanced and forward-looking diplomatic approach, which has supported steady economic development. The Sultanate of Oman continues to experience solid economic growth, with real GDP growth projected to reach 3.1 percent by 2025, according to the World Bank’s Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Economic Update Report released on December 4, 2025. In addition, Forbes has ranked the Omani rial as the world’s third-strongest currency, reinforcing perceptions of the country as a stable and attractive investment destination.
Against this backdrop, Oman is actively advancing efforts to diversify its economy by transitioning from oil dependence toward greener and more sustainable industries. Tourism has emerged as a key pillar of this strategy. Oman’s unspoiled natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and commitment to sustainable development are expected to attract international visitors and generate new business opportunities. These initiatives were prominently showcased at the Sultanate of Oman Pavilion during the Osaka Expo 2025.

Representing the Government of Japan, H.E. Dr. Ayano Kunimitsu, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered congratulatory remarks. She noted the steady deepening of friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and Oman, highlighting the expansion of bilateral exchanges in multiple fields, including those fostered through Osaka Expo 2025.
The reception featured Omani-inspired hospitality, including beverages made with Omani lemons, halal Wagyu beef dishes, a variety of seasonings, and decorative plants, offering guests a taste of Omani culture and cuisine. The event underscored the growing closeness between Japan and the Sultanate of Oman.
As a reliable supplier of energy to Japan and an emerging destination for tourism and investment, the Sultanate of Oman is expected to continue strengthening its partnership with Japan in the years ahead.
